Camera Gear: Capturing the Perfect Shot

Let’s start with the heart of any photographer or blogger’s toolkit: the camera gear. The camera I use for most of my shots is the Olympus PEN E-PL9, which I find takes really high quality images with 16MP. Its full-frame sensor and exceptional image quality allow me to capture stunning, high-resolution photos that make my blog content pop. It’s compact and lightweight, easy to use even for beginners, and you can take selfies too as you can flip the screen down to face you.

It has a really stylish design which I love, but what really sold it for me was the fact that it has Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity installed, so you can easily connect it to your smartphone to share images and control the camera via an app without having to go through a computer. It saves me so much time and hassle, which is perfect for bloggers!

Useful Camera Lenses for Photography

The Olympus PEN camera usually comes with a 14-42mm lens (or you can buy it separately). This lens is great for most normal pictures as it covers a wide range of focal lengths, making it perfect for everything from landscapes to portraits.

When it comes to shooting specific elements from portrait to architecture, the 45mm lens is my top pick, which is fantastic for capturing portrait shots and achieving that beautiful background blur (bokeh) effect that elevates your subject.

Tripods and Stabilizers: Keeping It Steady

A shaky shot can ruin an otherwise perfect photo or video. That’s where tripods and stabilizers come in handy. I recommend getting a good tripod for your camera if you want to take photos hands-free, steadily and at different angles. The Bonfoto B690A tripod is a solid choice for stability and flexibility, and is compact, lightweight and has a 360-degree ball head which allows me to swivel my camera and take photos at any angle – so handy for taking flatlays, portraits or landscape shots!

If you’re capturing content with your phone, the Gorilla Tripod is my go-to stabilizer. This flexible 360 tripod allows you to bend it in many angles, and you can wrap the legs around poles, branches and posts etc. It’s made of durable Robust grade ABS plastic and the feet of the tripod has an anti-slip feature, so it is very stable and won’t tip over easily. It is compatible with most phones and compact cameras and is the perfect tool for phone photography, vlogging and Youtubers.

I still use my phone to take images sometimes as it’s so convenient and the quality is still pretty good, but if you want to improve your photography and image quality, then I definitely would recommend getting a decent camera.

Lighting Essentials: Shining a Spotlight

Great lighting is the key to creating captivating photos and videos. While natural light is fantastic, having control over your lighting is essential. That’s where the Saikkl Ring Light comes in. It’s adjustable, portable and perfect for achieving that ideal lighting setup, even in less-than-ideal conditions. It has an adjustable arm and phone holder designed to capture content from any angle. The stands are sturdy to prevent toppling over. Plus, the colour and brightness are adjustable, so you can match it to your environment.

Accessories: Small Tools, Big Impact

A secure camera case is essential for protecting your camera while on the move. The Olympus CS-45B – Camera Case is great and is compatible with all Olympus PEN models. It is a high-quality leather case for protecting your camera on the go.

A reliable camera bag is handy if you need to carry your camera, lenses and other equipment on the go. The Winning SLR Camera Bag is well-organized with compartments, durable and waterproof. It also has an adjustable shoulder strap making it easy to carry around.
