My Simple Tips for Staying Healthy

My Simple Tips for Staying Healthy

We all start off with good intentions to try and live a healthy lifestyle, but sometimes life gets in the way and it can be difficult to stick to a healthy regime or have time to go to the gym.

I don’t believe in crazy diets or quick fixes, and the word ‘healthy’ is different for everyone. We are all different shapes and sizes, have our own food preferences, react differently to food and exercise, and genetically we are all different. Something that works for one person may not necessarily work for you, so it can take a bit of trial and error before you find a healthy lifestyle that suits you and one that you can actually maintain!

Here are a few simple tips that we can try to incorporate in our every day lives to strive towards living a healthy lifestyle.

Everything in moderation:

This doesn’t just apply to food and diet, it can also apply to life in general. Don’t be too harsh on yourself, you are allowed to treat yourself now and then. Sometimes when you deny yourself something that you’re craving, you’re likely to crave it even more and might end up over-indulging. It’s all about finding that balance. So go and enjoy that pizza or chocolate bar and not feel guilty about it!

Make time for exercise:

Easier said than done I know, but just blocking out 30 minutes of your day to dedicate it to exercise can go a long way. You don’t have to go to a gym, it can even be done in the comfort of your own home. With the internet these days, you can find a lot of workout videos that you can do, all for free. I find that even when I don’t particularly want to exercise, I feel so much more energised afterwards, and it relieves a lot of stress too mentally.

Keep hydrated, drink more water:

This is something that can be easily overlooked and not emphasised enough just how important it actually is. Upping your water intake has huge benefits, from improving your skin, concentration, digestion, maintaining your weight and is necessary for your body to function properly. It’s easy to be caught up in the moment with a busy lifestyle, but remember to listen to your body as it could be telling you that it needs hydrating. When I’m at work, I try to consciously make an effort to drink water throughout the day, and when I’m at home I have a glass of water before bed and first thing in the morning when I wake up.

Take regular breaks from work:

Especially in this day and age, we can be so focused on working towards our goals that our health can fall to the wayside. Slow down, take a bubble bath, read a book, take a walk outside, listen to music or a podcast, and just R E L A X. As much as health is about your physical body, it’s also about your mind. Take some time out for yourself and allow your mind to rest and unwind.

You do you:

There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to your personal health journey, it’s all about finding a routine that works for you. It’s about recognising when you are sleep deprived, if your clothes are too loose or too tight on you, or when your mood is low. There isn’t a secret formula to health, you can only listen to your own body and act on it in a way that best suits you.

I hope you found a little inspiration here to achieve your health goals!
