Valentine’s Day 2018 – Elan Cafe & M Restaurant

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Hope everyone had a lovely Valentine’s Day! (or Galentine’s Day). I believe that Valentine’s Day is a special day to celebrate your relationships with loved ones, not only for couples but also for close friends and family! Read on to find out what my boyfriend and I got up to for Valentine’s Day in London this year:

Elan Café:

This café has been recently added to my list of cafes to visit, mainly because of the beautiful décor that I’ve seen on Instagram (the things I find on Instagram! haha). There was a pretty long queue so I’d recommend going there early to nab a table.

The food was actually pretty good, and there was a lot to choose from; I ordered flatbread with chicken breast, poached egg and grilled peppers with a tomato base and chilli oil, and my boyfriend ordered the same but with home cured beetroot salmon and dill cream cheese. We then ordered waffles with spiced apple compote, but they ran out of apple so we had berries on top instead. The flavours worked so well and it was really tasty! The coffee was so-so though – we ordered iced latte, but then again they have a range of drinks to choose from, so their other flavoured coffees and smoothies may be better.

There are two Elan cafes in London – We went to the one in Knightsbridge but there is also another one in Mayfair, Soho. I think the décor is quite similar in both (there are plenty of flowers to go around!) so it doesn’t matter too much which one you go to.

I think it was the perfect place to go for brunch to celebrate Valentine’s Day (although we actually went the weekend before the actual day as it would be less busy). My favourite area of the café had to be the massive flower wall – it looked so gorgeous, I just HAD to take a photo with it! If you want to get a table next to this flower wall, be prepared to queue up for at least an hour though! The aesthetics in this café was just on point, and the cherry blossom tree definitely added a sweet and romantic element to it.

M Restaurant:

After walking around London and going to the cinema to watch Fifty Shades Freed (which was not bad actually, considering the first two films didn’t have much of a plot), we headed to M Restaurant in London Victoria, which is the award winning steak restaurant in London 2017! The restaurant is really easy to find and was a short walk from Victoria station. The interior was really classy and modern, with dim lighting and sported a grey and dark blue theme. We ordered a set menu that included bites, starters, mains, desserts and unlimited prosecco, all for £35 per person – not bad! 😛

Starters:

We had fried buttermilk chicken and salmon with dill. It was so good!

Mains:

For our mains, we both had rump steak cooked medium-rare which came with fries, and we ordered a side salad to go with it. The steak was nice but a bit on the chewy side. The portion size was about right – it doesn’t look like a lot, but we were stuffed afterwards!

Dessert:

For dessert, we had Hay Panacotta with Pear and Passion Fruit & Brown Butter Cake. The panacotta had a nice texture but lacked any sort of flavour, and the brown butter cake was okay but had a bread-like texture instead of a cakey-texture (unless it’s supposed to be like that, I’ve no idea). The passion fruit sorbet was really nice though, and went well with the cake.

Overall, we had a wonderful Valentine’s day out, and were really satisfied with the café and restaurant we went to! 😀 I definitely recommend both of these places to visit if you’re stopping by in London and looking for a more special, high-end place to dine!

Thanks for reading my blog! I hope you enjoyed it 🙂
